The 4 C's of Diamond Grading
Golden By Design believe in using top-quality materials for all of their creations, and this includes ensuring that all diamonds meet the 4 C's of Diamond Grading:
-
Carat
Carat is used to measure the weight of diamonds and gemstones. One carat is equal to 0.02 grams. Diamonds are often referred to by points 100pt = 1.00ct.
-
Clarity
Clarity refers to how clear a diamond is and is based on how many inclusions are inside the diamond. Inclusions can include minute crystals, growth patterns, tiny, enclosed fractures, etc. Clarity is measured on a scale from IF (internally flawless) to I2 (included 2). The clearer a diamond is the rarer and thus, the higher the price.
-
Colour
Colour refers to the colour of a diamond. Diamonds can have a yellowish or brownish tint. The scale starts at D (colourless) and goes all the way down to Z (noticeable colour). Most diamonds we see in the market are in the D-I range.
-
Cut
Cut refers to the cut of a diamond and is commonly thought to be the most important! Cut can really make or break the appearance of the stone. If a diamond has excellent proportions, symmetry and angles it is going to have optimal light return and be very sparkly. If a diamond has poor angles, poor symmetry, and poor polish, it will appear dull and dark as the light passes through the some or out the side instead of being refracted and reflected back out the top.
"I was looking for an experienced jeweller to create a special diamond ring for me to compliment my engagement and wedding rings, and after hearing great reviews I approached Lucy from Golden by Design to see if she could help. I had a clear idea of what style I hoped for and Lucy’s fine craftsmanship and eye for detail totally exceeded my expectations. The piece she created is pure perfection and exactly what I dreamed of - she brought my vision to life in the most beautiful way. Lucy engaged with me at every key stage throughout the process, providing me with options to choose from and offering her professional recommendation when I asked for her guidance to help me make important decisions. The stunning ring that I am left with will last a lifetime and be passed through the generations in our family - thank you Lucy for creating such an incredible and meaningful piece of jewellery for me! I highly recommend Lucy as a top quality jeweller you can trust to create something truly special."
